Chilli Con Carne - fine tuning...

Lately I've been trying to fine tune recipes which I've cooked forever.

Chilli con Carne is something my dad used to cook when we were young. I'm not sure if this was normal in the 80's or not.

So forever my chilli has gone like this - onion, garlic, mince beef, beef oxo, mushrooms, tinned tomatoes, kidney beans, dried mixed herbs and chilli powder, that order in the pot.

My tweaking lately has brought me to add a bit of sugar to my chilli. I've also swapped chilli powder for chilli flakes. Out has gone the mixed herbs, I don't think they were needed, and in has come cumin powder and cinnamon powder.

Tonight I read a Jamie Oliver recipe which included a bit of balsamic vinegar so I decided to give it a whirl.

Now you might notice that I have baked beans in there, this is something I like to do from time to time. If you do there is no need to add sugar as baked beans are loaded with them.

Rice is the way forward with chilli, oh and sour cream.

Chocolate is the only thing I haven't tried yet, I've heard this is good!

Well my dinner was yum, what did you have?
